Portfolio Main Page
This main page presents work as both a contractor and as an employee. Some of the contractor positions have been in-house positions while some of the employed positions were telecommuting. The larger brand names that I've supported have been B2B. Supporting marketing initiatives, I played a key role in driving the Digex brand look and feel, understanding the executive strategy. Other brands shown on this page were already established. I established smaller brands on the secondary branding page. Technical illustration samples from names like Lockheed and NASA are shown on the illustration page in portfolio.
Arcturus Marine
Maker of American Bow Thrusters.
Parent company of ArcturusUAV.
The two brochures shown below are for Arcturus Marine. Product is TRACLink, an anti-roll sensor and mechanism that stabilizes ships from rocking in the ocean. On the left and center top position is the wheelhouse control panel, with the actuator below. Following the previously established graphic vocabulary, it was easy to implement their theme. (rendering of the stabilizing fin and actuator were provided.) My position at ArcturusUAV as Documentation Control working with the content expert and flight engineers, I was responsible for producing Mechanical Reference and Operations Manuals for the T20. This manual was geared to the iPad. I also produced data sheets for the T20 and the Launcher, an Engine Modification Guide, presentation posters for sales, and started a Manufacturing Standards Manual. ITAR sensitive.
Adobe Systems 1996-2017
DTstudio became an approved Adobe Systems vendor in 1996 starting with the music sound production for the Illustrator 8.0 demonstration which played at trade shows and shipped with product. That sound file is on SoundCloud. Clicking the orange button below will open a SoundCloud page in another window. This started a professional relationship that lasted over two decades. After our relocation in 2001, we became the book production house for Adobe User Education assisting in the electronic book production of user manuals for Cs1 through Cs5 including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat Pro. Even a couple CIBs. Other agencies handled the web and multimedia instruction manuals. Working with the Content Development Team we would document the New Features lessons, check cross platform usability, and find /report any bugs. After Cs5, user manuals went to online help systems.
Digex Managed Hosting 1999-2001
The Leader in Enterprise Manged Hosting.
I became an employee of Digex as an Interactive Multimedia Designer in 1999, reporting to the VP of marketing and supporting marketing initiatives, website redesign and monthly flash features, as well as the CEO PPT presentation. We had several successful Analyst and VC tours getting high ratings from the Gartner and Forrester Reports. Within a year we pitched the accounts of Kraft Foods and JCrew and won. We pitched and won important partnerships with Microsoft and WorldCom. Advertisements featuring Shaquille Oneal, the recent NBA MVP, ran in the major national high tech trade magazines PCweek, LAN Times, Networker, as well as investor magazines Forbes, Fortune and The WSJ. Digex became a key part in the Verizon Wireless Network. The advertising campaign featuring Shaquille Oneal ran in 2000 the year he turned MVP. Ads ran in national trade magazines BusinessWeek, Networker, LANTimes and in investor magazines Forbes, Fortune and the WSJ. Supporting the VP and CEO presentation, with successful analyst and VC tour results, and gaining very favorable positions in Gartner and Forrester Reports, Digex Managed Hosting won key partnerships with Microsoft and WorldCom. These ad concepts were my VP's and I only executed the design and production. I also redesigned the corporate website after two other failed attempts by outside agencies.
Steve & Steve Advertising
I worked for a great Creative Director, Mr Steve (Wally) Wolowitz and Mr Steve Wilson for about a year and a half after Tandem. The Pay Per View brochure below was translated into three languages and was approved by the client in the first round making the agency a large margin. My position at S&S was mostly production layout and preflight, however this was one brochure I designed.
Tandem Computers 1984-1993
1. (below) Among the many other projects within a corporate communication department are the wonderful newsletters (below) that kept us so entertained; Tandem NonStopNEWS and Tandem Directions bi-monthly newsletters and Systems Review and PrimeTime Quarterly. Formats and guidelines were given to follow and deadlines are real. 2. The annual Key Partner Symposium featured key speakers from Tandem and the industry. This program look and feel was designed by my Art Director at the time, Ms Terri Hill, while I was responsible only for the layout and production; custom invitation pocket folder, topic inserts, welcome and thank you cards, agenda and business reply card survey working under her direction. 3. Tandem was great at giving their development teams accomplishment trophies and recognition awards. I designed these while employed at Tandem. Promoted three times in eight years, I worked for several internal client groups: Industrial Design, Video Production, Corporate Programs & Events, Manufacturing Training and Publications, Marketing Services, and Software Pubs.
